experiences an engaging, relevant, and impactful journey that fulfills the program's mission
of developing informed, connected, and activated community leaders.
Every Day has a Purpose
Every class day should intentionally move participants toward Leadership Waco's mission.
As you plan, ask:

How do we hope today's experience influences the way they lead?
The learning objectives, speakers, tours, and debrief questions should all support one or more of these outcomes.
LW Purpose & Objectives
PURPOSE
Leadership Waco, a Greater Waco Chamber program, is designed to educate, empower and engage current and emerging leaders to make a difference in our community and prepare them for future leadership roles.
Participants will observe our community's realities, opportunities, and challenges. Each class day, participants will be provided opportunities to discuss what they learned with classmates with the hope that each day's content will be personally impactful.
Each class day will feature lectures, panel discussions, dialogue among speakers, on-site visits, and participant interaction with session leaders.
OBJECTIVES
Leadership Waco is an educational program with the following objectives:
- Educate participants about Greater Waco’s history, government, economy, social issues, challenges, and opportunities.
- Motivate participants to critically evaluate and work to improve, if necessary, current and future community processes.
- Facilitate connections and dialogue among participants, presenters, and community stakeholders.
- Encourage participants to actively engage in future activities that contribute to Greater Waco's growth.
Committee Member Responsibilities
Meeting Rhythm
The Curriculum Committee meets monthly at noon on the Thursday following each Leadership Waco class day.
To make the best use of everyone's time, three teams participate in each meeting:
- The team whose class day was just completed reviews participant feedback, discusses lessons learned, and documents recommendations for future committees.
- The team planning the next class day provides a planning update, confirms logistics, and identifies any support needed.
- The team planning the following month's class day shares early planning progress and begins confirming speakers and tours.
Example: During the October meeting, the October team reviews survey feedback, while the November and December teams provide planning updates.
Please note: These are "brown bag" meetings. Feel free to bring your lunch.
Team Lead Responsibilities
- Coordinate your planning team and keep members engaged between meetings.
- Communicate with team members using the methods that work best for your group (email, text, phone calls—even smoke signals if necessary).
- Guide the team in designing an impactful class day that fulfills the day's learning objectives.
- Monitor planning progress and help remove obstacles.
- Keep the Leadership Waco Director informed of major updates, needs, and decisions.
- Attend Curriculum Committee meetings and provide planning updates.
Team Member Responsibilities
- Participate actively in planning discussions and committee meetings.
- Assist with recruiting speakers, arranging tours, and coordinating with partner organizations.
- Review historical agendas, participant feedback, and lessons learned to help improve the class day.
- Complete assignments and communicate progress with the team lead.
Leadership Waco Director Responsibilities
- Serve as a resource throughout the planning process.
- Assist with identifying speakers, organizations, and community contacts.
- Coordinate transportation, meals, and overall program logistics.
- Maintain curriculum records, historical resources, and participant feedback.
- Support each team in creating a meaningful and impactful learning experience.

Taking the ropes course off of the first day - in AUGUST - was a great call!
Instead of "Waco 101" on this day, we should have the committee members provide needed background info for their class days.
Waco Surf was great - no complaints about the drive, but the acoustics aren't good.
