Sports & Special Events
The Chamber calendar stays busy yearround with sports & special events to connects members to each other and to the community. These events also offer a unique opportunity to showcase Greater Waco’s natural assets and promote the community’s quality of life. Here’s an overview of these sports & special events:
The Texas Food Truck Showdown held its third annual competition on April 1, 2017 and brought 40 food trucks and thousands of foodies together in downtown Waco. Each year, this event features mobile boutiques, a beer and wine garden, pet friendly atmosphere, live entertainment and much more.
The Mid-Tex Farm & Garden show, with presenting sponsor Equipment Depot, is held annually in conjunction with the Blackland Income Growth (B.I.G.) Conference, which gives visitors a look at the newest farm and ranch equipment, seed, chemicals and ag-related services and technologies. Admission is free to this annual event, which will be held Jan. 10-11, 2018 at the Extraco Events Center.
First Pitch Sports Luncheon
The First National Bank of Central Texas Sports Luncheon is an annual event gives a preview of the upcoming local baseball and softball season for Baylor University and McLennan Community College.
Waco has been ranked one of the best places to play golf by Golf Digest so it’s no wonder – the Chamber’s annual tournament is one of our most popular events. Players from throughout our membership will enjoy a day on the course (May 4, 2018) for some friendly competition and great food and prizes.
Hackers are welcome at the George’s Big “O” Cup Tournament on Sept. 15, 2017 at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. This fun, laid back scramble style tournament features larger than life cups (18″ in diameter!) for you to sink birdies, drain more eagles and snag that elusive hole-in-one! This tournament follows a four-person Florida Scramble format and includes prizes on every hole, as well as drinks and games throughout.
One of the world’s largest junior golf tournaments was recently played June 12-14, 2017 at area golf courses. Hundreds of junior golfers ages 7-18 and their families come to Waco from all over the country and beyond. It’s 4 courses, 3 days and endless fun for all participants! Click Here to learn more.
Kick-Off Sports Luncheon
The Kick-Off Sports Luncheon is the precursor to college and high school pigskin season in Waco. The next luncheon will be Sept. 22, 2017.
Tip-Off Sports Luncheon
The Tip-Off Sports Luncheon on Wednesday, October 11 will usher in the college basketball season for McLennan Community College and Baylor University.
The Brazos River and Cameron Park provide the ideal setting for the Ninth Annual TriWaco Triathlon event in downtown Waco on July 23, 2017. Learn more at TriWaco.org.
