State of the Nation Luncheon Set for Oct. 12
WACO, Texas – The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce will host a State of the Nation Luncheon featuring the Honorable Ted Cruz (R-TX), the 34th U.S. Senator from Texas, at noon on October 12 at the Baylor Club. Senator Cruz will be joined in a panel discussion with U.S. Representative Bill Flores (TX-17) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Rob Engstrom.
The State of the Nation luncheon will give attendees the opportunity to engage federally elected leaders on matters pertinent to central Texas.
In the Senate, Cruz serves on the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation; the Committee on Armed Services; the Committee on the Judiciary; the Joint Economic Committee; and the Committee on Rules and Administration.
“I appreciate all the work the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce has done to create jobs and opportunities throughout Central Texas. Our nation needs to return to the commonsense values that have built Waco and cities like it all across our state. This is why job creation continues to be one of my top priorities while serving Texans in the Senate,” said Senator Cruz. “As you all know, when Washington and its regulatory burdens get out of the way, American ingenuity and businesses are able to do what they do best, create good-paying jobs for hardworking Americans. I’m looking forward to working with all of you to ensure Waco continues to lead Texas and our nation in job creation.”
Additionally, Congressman Flores, of the 17th Congressional District of Texas, will join the conversation to discuss economic development activity in the central Texas region and his work in the House of Representatives to help build a business-friendly climate.
“The Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce works hard to promote community and economic growth. They have played an integral role in the economic success we have seen in Central Texas. I look forward to the State of the Nation luncheon and discussing the importance of developing ‘Main Street’ solutions to further improve economic opportunities in Texas and around the country,” said Congressman Flores.
Baylor University alumnus Rob Engstrom serves as the U.S. Chamber’s national political director and he will be providing insight on the state of current political affairs as it relates to the business community.
“We are so happy to have the opportunity to bring our officials from both chambers of Congress to address the business community of Waco,” said Jessica Attas, director of public policy at the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce. “Having the event structured as a panel will provide a wonderful opportunity not only to hear from our three guests, but also for the business community to share with them our positions and areas of priorities as they head back to Washington.”
The Greater Waco Chamber is focused on policies conducive to the economic growth and development of the central Texas region. Engaging elected officials at all levels through its public policy committee, issuance of policy position statements and hosting legislative programming, such as the State of the State and State of the Nation luncheons, are part of efforts to positively impact issues related to economic development, education, healthcare, tax and regulatory reform, transportation, and water and natural resources.
The State of the Nation Luncheon presenting sponsor is Texas First State Bank. The gold sponsors are Texas State Technical College – Waco, Oldcastle Materials, Brazos Masonry and Kissing Tree Vineyards.
Individual tickets are available for $50 and tables of 10 are $500. Reservations can be made online through October 6 at WacoChamber.com.
